From the Philippine Inquirer: A water pump designed by the Alternative Indigenous Development Foundation in the Philippines has qualified for the Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy. The pump brings water to remote hillside villages without using electricity. The Foundation won 10,000 pounds and will compete with 9 groups from other countries for five top awards that will earn them another 30,000 pounds. Former US Vice President Al Gore will present the prizes on June 21 at London’s Royal Geographical Society.
