Summer Reading

The July 2007 Non-Toxic TimesNewsletter recommends two books as required reading this summer. In “Heat: How to Stop the Planet from Burning”, GeorgeMonbiot presents the idea that we can reduce carbon emissions by a whopping 90% by the year 2030. There is supposedly a lot of how-to information on reducing or eliminating your carbon footprint.
The other book is “The Suicidal Planet: How to Prevent Global Climate Catastrophe” by Mayer Hillman, et al. It discusses how each person will be given a carbon allowance that will shrink over time to maintain safe atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. They suggest a card system that would allow the government to track this allowance and your usage. Sounds controversial already.
