  • Still writing cheques?

I wrote a cheque for our monthly car loan payment last night. It made me realize that I’m probably still part of that group of people who hasn’t jumped on board the online bill paying bandwagon. Yes, I admit, I still write a cheque, stuff it in the envelope, stick a stamp and mail it…

  • Global Cool

I watched part of the Concert for Diana rerun tonight. I remembered reading how Global Cool was involved in reducing the show’s carbon footprint. Even after the concert, they are still involved in offsetting the event’s greenhouse gas emissions through a clean development mechanism project in KwaZulu-Natal, Africa. Now that’s a jolly good show.

  • Bumper sticker wisdom

I saw this on a bumper sticker yesterday: Recycle yourself: Be an organ donor.

  • New York City’s first green building

I took a double decker NYC bus tour (green bus thankfully) a few days ago and one of the interesting things I saw was the Hearst Tower on w. 57th st. It was the first skyscraper to break ground post 9/11. According to Wikipedia: Hearst Tower is the first green building completed in New York…

  • Victor Hardware’s evaporative coolers

I spotted an ad for evaporative air coolers along Quezon Avenue yesterday. They’re distributed by Victor Hardware and all look quite promising save for one catch: the price tag. • Arroceros Forest Park

The city of Manila needs all the greenness it can get, and yesterday, the Arroceros Forest Park was formally reopened! Mayor Alfredo Lim overturned a decision by former mayor Lito Atienza to build over the park. At 10:40 a.m., Lim attended a thanksgiving Mass organized by Winner Foundation for the reopening of Arroceros Forest Park….

  • Greening your pet

Man’s best friend can also be the earth’s best friend. Aside from using all natural pet care products, biodegradable poop bags and toys made from recycled materials, here are more suggestions.

  • HazMat

I have some items at home that I have no idea how or where to dispose of properly. A quick online search brought me to The Green Community and the following tips: Call your city government to find out about hazardous waste collection or disposal sites, or the Environmental Defense Fund at 1800-CALL-EDF. The EPA…

  • Papoose Creek Lodge

Being summer and all, I am in a vacation state of mind. My favorite traveler Samantha Brown of the Travel Channel went on the hunt for ecofriendly vacation spots. One of the places she visited here in the U.S. was the Papoose Creek Lodge. The ecolodge made it to Conde Nast’s Traveler Green List. It…
